Mission
Art-Reach is a Delaware Valley nonprofit organization that joins the arts and special-needs audiences of all ages by connecting agencies that serve people with disabilities or economic disadvantages with cultural opportunities. Art-Reach's primary activities to overcome financial and physical barriers and make the arts more accessible are: the Ticketing Program, which distributes donated and discounted tickets to performing arts events, museums, and other cultural institutions through our network of member human-services agencies and schools; the In-Facility Program, which brings the arts directly to our members though on-site performances and arts activities at participating agencies and schools; the Workshop Program, which provides in-depth, participatory arts programs that address specific social needs; and the Access Guide, the region's premier resource for structural and programmatic accessibility information about arts and cultural venues and organizations, available in printed form and online at www.art-reach.org.
Description
In 1986 Art-Reach entered the Philadelphia arts arena with a mission that would touch the lives of thousands of people. Our goal: to bring the arts - in all their splendor and diversity - to special audiences who otherwise might not have the opportunity. It began with a simple premise. There were many unused tickets for performing and visual arts events. There were also many people who never had the opportunity to see a play or go to a museum. Why not provide a central organization to bridge the gap between the two? Since then, Art-Reach has obtained over 187,000 donated and discounted tickets from over 125 arts groups and distributed them to over 150 human-services agencies serving special-needs audiences. These special audiences include individuals with physical or mental disabilities, the elderly in need, consumers of domestic violence or recovery programs, and clients with economic disadvantages.
