Off-Off-Broadway’s Longest Continuously Running Show, Line Comes To Philadelphia For Immediate Release: March 12, 2008
Luna Theater Company concludes their critically acclaimed sixth season with the revival of LINE by Israel Horovitz. Running since 1974 in New York City, LINE is the longest continuously running show in off-off Broadway history. LINE will be performed at the Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 located at 825 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, previewing April 18-22; opening Wednesday, April 23 and running through May 18, 2008. Gradually the struggle for first place begins, as they lie, cheat, wrestle and push to gain the lead spot. Written in 1968, this timeless classic is as relevant as ever in satirizing the American win-at-all-costs attitude. About the Playwright ISRAEL HOROVITZ Among Israel's best-known plays are Line (now running for the 34th year in a row, off-Broadway’s longest-running play), The Indian Wants the Bronx, Lebensraum, It's Called the Sugar Plum, Park Your Car In Harvard Yard and Stage Directions. Mr. Horovitz has won numerous writing awards, including two Obies an Emmy, the Drama Desk Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from B’Nai Brith, Mr. Horovitz is the father of five children including Beastie Boy, Adam Horovitz. Israel is Founder and Artistic Director of Gloucester Stage Company and of The New York Playwrights Lab. Horovitz is the most-produced American playwright in French theatre history. About the Producing Artistic Director GREGORY SCOTT CAMPBELL Gregory is Founder and Producing Artistic Director of the Luna Theater Company. Previously with the Luna, Gregory performed in The Zoo Story, Oleanna, No Exit and Waiting for Godot. He has also directed Fool for Love, The Turn of the Screw, Burn This, Agnes of God, Unwrap Your Candy, Lebensraum, True West, Breathing Corpses and Grace. Gregory is the original founder of the Spark 10 Minute Play Festival and a former board member of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia and chair of the Spark Small Theatre Committee. Consisting of three Philadelphia premieres, our seventh season will focus on the “Seven Deadly Sins.” Beginning in October with MONSTER, Neal Bell’s adaptation of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, then followed by Craig Wright’s ORANGE FLOWER WATER in January and concluding with Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Paul Vogel’s HOT ‘N THROBBING in April.
