Sizzling summer nights are best spent at The New Candlelight Theatre with the Little Sisters of Hoboken who prove just how habit forming NUNSENSE is! This side splitting comedy for all ages opens July 27, 2007 at the Nation’s ONLY Equity Non-profit Dinner Theater! For Immediate Release: July 16, 2007
Nunsense, a musical romp featuring the Little Sisters of Hoboken and their witty, often-wry senses of humor opens July 27th running through September 30th at The New Candlelight Theatre. Tickets are selling fast, act now and book this entertaining musical for the whole family! Nunsense, with book, music, and lyrics by Dan Goggin, originated as a line of greeting cards featuring a nun offering tart quips with a clerical slant. The cards caught on so quickly that Goggin decided to expand the concept into a cabaret show called The Nunsense Story, which opened for a four-day run at The Duplex in Manhattan and remained there for 38 weeks, encouraging its creator to expand it into a full-length theater production. Nunsense opened off-Broadway on December 12, 1985 at the Cherry Lane Theatre. It ran for 3,672 performances and became the second-longest running off-Broadway show in history. By the time it closed in 1995, it had become an international phenomenon translated into 26 languages with more than 6,000 productions worldwide. It has grossed over $300 million worldwide and over 25,000 women have donned the habit. The five nuns, each different in their own right, are in need of funds for the burials of 52 of their fellow sisters who were accidentally poisoned with a toxic pot of vichyssoise soup by their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God. So…Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer, Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of the Novices, Sister Robert Ann, a streetwise nun from Brooklyn, Sister Mary Leo, a novice who longs to be a ballerina and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia--who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head--sing, dance and humor their way through an evening of hilarious entertainment! Led by director Jeff Reim, choreographer Barbie Sue McCrane and music director Steven Weatherman, the cast includes: Ruth Wren, Micki Sharpe, Melissa Joy Hart, Erin-Michelle Waldie and Gerri Weagraff. Owners Bob Miller and Jody Anderson Miller produce this fourth installment of the 2007 season. After obtaining ownership in 2002, Bob and Jody set forth on carving a niche in the fledgling professional theater community of Delaware and creating a model for dinner theaters across the country. Embarking on one of their most successful seasons to date, the Millers draw to a close their first year as the nation’s only Equity dinner theater and one of the newest members of the Theater Alliance or Philadelphia. The New Candlelight Theatre is located in historic Ardentown, DE—five minutes from downtown Wilmington and 30 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia. Nunsense will open on July 27 and run through September 30. To purchase tickets please call the New Candlelight Theatre box office at: 302-475-2313.
