Psychological Chiller “Boy Gets Girl” Opens at Montgomery Theater At What Point Does Persistence Become Obsession?

Have you ever been on a blind date that resulted in an almost laughable disaster typical of such an occasion? Consider yourself fortunate. Montgomery Theater brings to their uniquely intimate professional stage an intriguing story of one blind date gone horrendously awry.

To some, the title of Boy Gets Girl may bring to mind a dreamy tale of a man and woman seemingly unlikely to be destined for eternal love, that somehow through intense adversity find their way into each others hearts and become soul mates forever. Be cautioned, as this story is quite the opposite.

Theresa Bedell is a career magazine reporter in New York. After she goes on an awkward blind date with a friend of a friend, she sees no reason to continue the relationship, but the handsome younger man thinks otherwise. Theresa is at first annoyed, yet flattered by Tony’s continued attention. However, her attitude gradually transitions to one of fear as Tony persistently pursues her.

Along the way, the play delves into questions of what exactly is appropriate or not when romantically advancing on someone. At what point does persistence become obsession? Rich insight is given to the brilliant delineation of the kind of terror a woman in full control of her life feels when everything around her appears as a threat to her very existence.

Time Magazine hailed Boy Gets Girl, by Rebecca Gilman, as “one of the finest, most disturbing American play in years.” Gilman has received numerous awards for her plays which include Spinning into Butter and Glory of Living.

Director Tom Quinn has once again waved his magic casting wand and put together an ensemble of professional actors to tell the story. Theresa Dolan stars as Theresa with John Allen Biles as Tony. Co-workers Howard, Mercer and Harriet are portrayed by Paul Dake, Brian Campbell and Elyssa Phillips. Rounding out the cast are Maria Wolf as police officer Beck and Hank Deluca as filmmaker Les Kennkat.

Box office opens 20 minutes before show. For more information and reservations call 215-723-9984 or reserve online at www.montgomerytheater.org.
