Kids from around the region will put on their favorite 50’s outfits and dress like Elvis Presley for the All Shook Up Sock-Hop during the Merriam Theater’s 6th Annual PECO Kids’ Night on Broadway on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia, located on Broad Street at Locust Street in Philadelphia. The party is being held just prior to the 8:00 p.m. performance of All Shook Up at the Merriam Theater, located directly across the street at 250 S. Broad Street. The All Shook Up Sock-Hop party is free to all ticket holders for that evening’s performance. PECO, an Exelon Company, is the proud sponsor of Kids’ Night on Broadway and The Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia is the proud host of the All Shook Up Sock-Hop. All Shook Up is part of the Broadway Across America – Philadelphia 06-07 series at the Merriam Theater.

In conjunction with PECO Kids’ Night on Broadway, children have the opportunity to receive a free ticket for All Shook Up when a regular price adult ticket is purchased for the Wednesday, February 21 performance only. The evening’s festivities will be hosted by CBS 3’s Jim Donovan and will include visits by All Shook Up cast members, Elvis karaoke hosted by WOGL 98.1, characters and games from Once Upon a Nation, face painting, appearances by local mascots including Hooter from Temple University and Mad Dog from the Philadelphia Wings, plus food, activities and more.

Designed to introduce young people to live theatre and foster a new generation of theatergoers, Kids’ Night on Broadway is an annual audience development program reaching over 50 cities nationwide and offering thousands a free ticket to a Broadway show when purchasing a full-priced ticket. Kids’ Night on Broadway was created by The League of American Theatres and Producers and Theatre Development Fund in New York City in 1996 and became a national program in the 1997/98 touring Broadway season.

Combining all-time favorite Elvis Presley songs with a surefire rock ‘n’ roll story, All Shook Up, the musical that took Broadway by storm, tells the romantic tale of how a young girl’s dream comes true when a guitar-playin’ roustabout rides into a square state and turns the town upside down with his hip-swivelin’, lip-curlin’ and sexy song singin’. The show features 24 Presley classic hit songs including “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Burning Love”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, “It’s Now or Never”, and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
