A Valentine’s Treat – Love shows up when you least expect it! The delightful romantic comedy “A Good Look at Boney Kern” by Jonathan Daly opens to the public on Valentine’s Day. This hilarious heartwarming play comes to the Montgomery Theater in Souderton through the generous sponsorship of THP. Boney Kern is a middle-aged confirmed bachelor who rents a room in a comfortable old house for the summer. He's a high school English teacher taking courses towards a master's degree who needs the room to sleep, study and occasionally tutor college students. During his short stay, he encounters multiple absurdities presented by the offbeat elderly woman from whom he leases the space. Through the process, he falls in love with a young blind girl, ignoring the objections of her overprotective grandmother, his landlady. The interaction among this trio takes the audience on a roller coaster of emotions, both funny and sentimental, with a bit of old-fashioned charm and just enough zaniness to amuse even the skeptical.

Written for and originally starring Don Knotts, the play had its East coast premiere at the Bucks County Playhouse in 1977, 30 years ago. Best known for his role as the irritating yet loveable Deputy Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show”, Knotts passed away just last February.

The original 1977 set for “Boney Kern” was designed by Clark Duncan, the designer for last season’s “The Desk Set”. Montgomery Theater is recreating the set based on Duncan’s original design rendering.

In the title role at Montgomery Theater, the very talented and seasoned vaudevillian style actor Marc Weil is bound to captivate the audience with his take on this engaging script. Marc is a favorite of Montgomery Theater audiences. Rounding out the cast is Sarah Kiefer, from last year’s hit comedy “Psychopathia Sexualis”, along with Jean Brooks and Brian Hinkle.

The “building a better world” people at THP proudly sponsor “A Good Look at Boney Kern”. A leader in supporting arts and culture, THP is directly responsible for bringing professional entertainment to the Montgomery Theater as part of their dedication to help create a better quality of life for our community.

Opening weekend audiences will receive a surprise Valentine’s treat from Asher’s Chocolates!

Box office opens 20 minutes before show. For more information and reservations call 215-723-9984, or visit our website at www.montgomerytheater.org to reserve online.
