We may be living in an era where it seems everyone gets their fifteen minutes of fame – but that wasn't always the case. The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater is traveling back in time to tell the story of the country's first superstar – with their production of Annie Get Your Gun. This Broadway classic is based on the life of the legendary Annie Oakley and her rivalry/romance with fellow sharpshooter Frank Butler.
Irving Berlin's classic masterpiece was updated a few years ago for a very successful Broadway revival featuring Bernadette Peters. The Players Club is staging this new version; providing an evening of entertainment that's terrific for the whole family. Everyone from kids to grandparents is sure to enjoy some of musical theater's best-known standards – including “There's No Business Like Show Business,” “They Say It's Wonderful” and “Anything You Can Do.”
Director R. Bruce Warren of Aston has assembled a stellar cast to tell this true American story. Faith Yesner of Media stars as spunky Annie Oakley, with Tom Orr of Yardley as Frank Butler. Other standouts include Connor Ambrose of Swarthmore; Bob Dimond, Walt Havard, Bradley J. King II , and Emelie Reimer of Media; Amy Bartlett and Mary Filippone of Springfield; Carl Hyde of Wayne; Ben Fried of Hatboro; and Natalee Hill of Philadelphia. Choreographer Debra Yemenijian of Fraser keeps them all moving.
Annie Get Your Gun runs November 30-December 3, December 7-10 and 14-16. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm and Sunday matinees are at 2pm. The Players Club of Swarthmore is located just minutes from the Blue Route and I-95 at 614 Fairview Avenue in Swarthmore.
