BCKSEET Productions presents KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN - Opening Night Benefit to Support Community Partner ActionAIDS For Immediate Release: March 23, 2006 BCKSEET Productions spins a web of deceit, intrigue and passion with Manuel Puig's masterpiece KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN. In the play that inspired the TONY Award-winning musical, journey in and out of two men's psyches, spirits and ideals as they are faced with one common reality: the cold cell imprisoning not only their bodies, but also their opposing values. Performances will be held May 5th through 20th (Fri. and Sat.), at the Society Hill Playhouse's Red Room, located at 507 S. 8th Street . The performance starts at 7:30pm; seating is general. Tickets range from $18 to $21 and include one drink and a $1 donation to ActionAIDS. Tickets are available by contacting the Society Hill Playhouse's box office at 215.923.0210. All proceeds from the Opening Night Benefit on May 5th will be donated to BCKSEET Productions' community partner ActionAIDS. KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN is the story of two prisoners, Molina and Valentin, and their relationship in a South American prison. Molina, an effeminate and openly homosexual window-dresser, is in jail for "corruption of a minor," while Valentin is a political prisoner trying to overthrow the government. The two men, seemingly opposite in every way, form an intimate bond in their cell, and their relationship changes both of them in profound ways. This production of KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN will be directed by Christopher L. Butterfield and will feature G. DeCandia and Oscar Dubon in the roles of Molina and Valentin. In addition to presenting fresh and inventive works, BCKSEET Productions has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the community by hosting benefits and donating proceeds from past shows to local organizations. During last season's successful run of Angels in America, Part I, BCKSEET Productions partnered with ActionAIDS as its official benefiting organization. BCKSEET Productions continues to foster this community partnership by donating all proceeds from its May 5th Opening Night Benefit and $1 from every ticket sale to ActionAIDS. ActionAIDS is a Philadelphia-based non-profit that was founded in 1986 with the mission that no one should face AIDS alone. By providing a range of services and taking an active and professional approach to leadership in service, education and advocacy, ActionAIDS' goal is to sustain and enhance the quality of life for those who are living with HIV and their loved ones. Although this young theatre company is relatively new to the Philadelphia area, it has produced shows in Boston, New York City and Guatemala since its inception. This year marks its second season in Philadelphia and as the resident company of the Society Hill Playhouse's Red Room. In addition to producing last season's Closer and Angels in America, Part I, BCKSEET Productions participated in the 2005 Philly Fringe/LiveArts Festival with their workshop of Hung on a Blonde Ponytail and in the Philadelphia Theatre Alliance's Free Night of Theatre with their reading of Alpha Female—two new and original works. BCKSEET Productions is a fresh theatre company whose mission is "to produce art with the talents of multidisciplinary artists who educate, entertain and enlighten society with the ideals of classical, contemporary and original cutting edge works of art."
