Get set for a magical rainbow ride through biblical Egypt on the wings of the new National tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Broadway’s Patrick Cassidy and American Idol’s Amy Adams. Audiences will be dazzled not only by the bright, technicolored spectacle, but also by the blending of various musical styles when Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first collaboration opens at the Merriam Theater (250 S. Broad Street) on Tuesday, February 28th in Philadelphia, and runs through Sunday, March 5th. The blockbuster musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (composer of Cats, Evita, Phantom of the Opera) and Tim Rice (Aladdin, The Lion King) combines pop, rock country and other musical styles for a multi-textured palette of sound. Originally written as a fifteen minute pop-cantata for a children’s choir, this beloved musical has become one of America’s favorite shows. Since the first production in 1968 the show, based on the biblical tale of Jacob’s son Joseph and his 11 brothers, has proven to be one of the most enduring and endearing shows of all time.

Headlining this new National tour will be Patrick Cassidy in the title role and Amy Adams as the narrator. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat showcases the amazing talents of this remarkable cast through a colorful palette of musical stylings blending rock n’ roll, rhythm and blues, and country.

Son of musical theatre legends Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy and brother to teen idols David and Shaun Cassidy, Patrick’s own career spans the world of stage, film, and television including most recently his Broadway appearance in 42nd Street. Other New York credits include The Pirates of Penzance, Leader of the Pack and Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins. Patrick was seen on Broadway and in the U.S. National tour of Disney’s Aida. Film credits include The Longtime Companion and I’ll Do Anything. “Crossing Jordan,” “According to Jim,” and “Charmed” round out Patrick’s illustrious stage and screen career.

Amy Adams is most known for her appearance on the Fox hit television show “American Idol.” One of the top ten finalists, Amy and nine others hit the US, Canada, and Singapore, in a 50 city tour. Amy has made appearances on Entertainment Tonight, The Tonight Show, and Access Hollywood among others. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be Amy’s theatrical debut.
