Act II Playhouse appoints Bloh at Dramaturge For Immediate Release: February 8, 2006 Dennis Bloh has been appointed to the position of Dramaturge at Act II Playhouse, Ambler PA, it was announced by David-Michael Kenney, managing director. Mr. Bloh, an English teacher at La Salle College High School, has directed, acted and designed theater for over 30 years. He has worked at Players Club of Swarthmore, Theater Widener, Upper Darby Summerstage, Act II Playhouse, People’s Light, Theater Exile, Colonial Playhouse, The Brick Playhouse and others. He has served as a Barrymore Judge for the past seven years. The breadth of his training and involvement make him uniquely qualified to undertake the position of dramaturge. In that position he hopes to be an active part of creating the plays at Act II. The dramaturge’s role is one of support and he does comprehensive research on a play and presents the results of that research to the director, the design team, and the actors. He becomes a resource from which each element of the producing team can draw information and additional insight. A part time attorney, and full-time husband, father and teacher and Upper Darby resident, Dennis has devoted a great deal of his life to helping young people develop their talent. He is currently involved in establishing the Cappies, a new program to promote cooperation and appreciation among high school theater productions. At the Players Club of Swarthmore he has served as Vice-President of the Board of Governors, Producing Artistic Director, and Coordinator of the Second Stage Program. While there he began a new play festival, a monthly play reading, and a number of special events to evoke new audiences. A lifelong devotee of Shakespeare, in 1995 he was awarded a prestigious NEH grant to study Shakespeare at Stratford, Ontario. He has also studied Shakespeare at the University of Virginia with Dr. Ralph Cohen of Shenandoah Shakespeare.
