Arden Theatre Company Announces Extension: Opus By Michael Hollinger, Directed by Terrence J. Nolen, Extended through March 12, 2006 For Immediate Release: February 1, 2006 Arden Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the extension of Michael Hollinger's world premiere Opus, which will now run through Sunday, March 12. The additional eight performances are a direct response to strong ticket sales and positive audience feedback. "Opus is an exceptional new play," raves The Philadelphia Weekly, "it's at once intelligent and simple, optimistic and observant." The Philadelphia Inquirer hails the "intriguing Opus" as "an engrossing...handsome world premiere." If ticket sales are any indication, audiences are in full agreement. Violist turned playwright Michael Hollinger returns to his first passion with Opus, capturing all the richness and power of any great piece of music in a play. With only a few days to rehearse Beethoven's Opus 131, a world-renowned string quartet struggles to prepare for their highest-profile performance. Their rehearsal room becomes a pressure cooker as passions rise, personalities clash, and the players are forced to confront the ephemeral nature of their life's work. Opus features an all-star cast including two time Barrymore Award-winner Greg Wood (Death of a Salesman, Daedalus), David Whalen, last seen in Philadelphia Theatre Company's Barrymore Award-winning Take Me Out, Douglas Rees, Patrick McNulty and Erika Cuenca. Ticket prices range from $29 to $45 and may be purchased by calling the Arden Box Office at (215) 922-1122, online at www.ardentheatre.org or in person at 40 N. 2nd Street in Old City. Post-show discussions are scheduled following performances on Sunday, February 5 at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 19 at 2 p.m. Discounted group rates and three-show subscriptions are available through the box office.
