Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects Of Love At Media Theatre For Immediate Release: January 11, 2006 After his mega-musicals Cats and Phantom of the Opera took audiences by storm, Andrew Lloyd Webber surprised fans with his next work based on a short novel by David Garnett. The musical, Aspects of Love, premiered in London in 1989 and follows various love affairs through three decades. Unlike Lloyd Webber’s mega-musicals, Aspects of Love is an intimate piece, which he produced with a chamber orchestra. The show opens with young Alex singing “Love Changes Everything”, Lloyd Webber’s achingly beautiful power ballad. As the story progresses, we learn that Alex is in love with French actress Rose Vibert, who eventually marries Alex’s Uncle George and has a child. Aspects of Love, however, is not a musical that can be synopsized within one or two sentences. It is a brilliantly structured romance, and like all of Lloyd Webber’s musicals, is completely sung. Aspects of Love’s intimate structure allows the score to be the main focus, as the show eschews special effects, gymnastic dancing, or a huge set. The score remains one of Lloyd Webber’s finest, with songs such as “Anything But Lonely” and the powerful “Seeing Is Believing” (lyrics by Don Black and Charles Hart). The Media Theatre production will be directed by Jesse Cline (2004 Barrymore nominee), and will feature Michael Deleget (of Media’s Camelot) as Alex and Mary Mossberg as Rose. Others in the cast include Daniel Stanton, Nolan Johnson, and Amanda Brizzi. All three professional actors appeared in Media’s Cats and Seussical. The Philadelphia professional premiere of Aspects of Love plays at The Media Theatre January 25-February 12. For tickets, call 610-891-0100 or visit www.mediatheatre.org.
