Best of Delaware Party Provides Major Support for DTC

DelawareTheatre Company, the state’s premier professional theatre,was the 2005 Cultutal Arts Grant Recepient of the Best of DelawareParty 2005, held this year on July 21, 2005 at the Rollins Centerat Dover Downs. A major donation was made from the funds raisedat the Best of Delaware party which will support DTC’sextensive community programs for young people. Charles J. Conway,Director of Education at DTC, says “We never expected such agenerous gift – imagine going to a party and walking away witha reward of this size. I am confident that this funding will beput to good use.”

While DTC puts on sixplays each season, the Education department takes on additionalresponsibilities outside of the theatre. Since it was founded in1978, Delaware Theatre Company has always included education as partof its mission. DTC has successfully established its EducationDepartment as a dynamic community resource.

Theatre in the Schoolsmakes the thrill of live, professionaltheatre available to regional middle and high school students andtheir teachers through its Student Matinee Series. Youth AtRisk programs serve students with special needs includingchildren with cognitive disabilities and youth who are incarcerated.The Delaware Young Playwrights Festival introduces middle andhigh school students to the art of playwriting and gives a few luckystudents the once in a lifetime experience of having their playproduced onstage by the theatre professionals of DTC. Throughout the year, acting classes and Summer on Stagecamp engage children, teens, and adults in the art of theatre.

DTC staff got in on theaction at the Best of Delaware Party: greeting guests, sellingtickets, and assisting the winning vendors. Producing DirectorAnne Marie Cammarato says, “We were thrilled to be part of suchan exciting and successful event. We are looking forward to thenext one!”
