Arden Theatre Company Announces 2005/2006 College Nights; Five dates announced for this season’s College Nights For Immediate Release: September 6, 2005 Arden Theatre Company announces the return of the overwhelmingly popular College Night series, for the 2005/2006 season. College students with valid student ID may purchase tickets for only $10 on specified Thursday nights for each show of the season. The Arden kicks off the first of its five-show season with the biting British comedy Loot written by notorious English playwright Joe Orton and directed by Douglas C. Wager. Inept bank robbers hijack mom’s coffin to stash the loot from a recent heist in this frenzied web of conspiracies fueled by greed, lust and hypocrisy. Loot runs September 8 – October 30, 2005. College Night for Loot is Thursday, September 29. Next, the Arden presents Winesburg, Ohio, directed by Terrence J. Nolen. Based on the book by Sherwood Anderson and set to a brilliant score of original folk music, this moving portrait of small-town America explores the conflicted relationships and hidden passions of its people. Winesburg, Ohio runs October 6 – November 6, 2005. College Night for Winesburg, Ohio is Thursday, October 6. The season continues with the world premiere of Michael Hollinger’s Opus. As elegant as it is provoking, the play follows a world-class string quartet pursing honesty in their music and in their lives. Directed by Terrence J. Nolen, Opus runs January 12 – March 5, 2006. College Night for Opus is Thursday, February 2. Dancing at Lughnasa, regarded as preeminent Irish playwright Brian Friel’s masterpiece, is a poetic and heartwarming story that follows the lives of five Irish sisters through the rugged emotional landscape of family. Directed by Aaron Posner, Dancing at Lughnasa runs March 2 – April 2, 2006. College Night for Dancing at Lughnasa is Thursday, March 2. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum directed by Terrence J. Nolen, concludes the season. One of the funniest musicals ever written, Forum features Philadelphia’s favorite comic actors Tony Braithwaite, Jeffrey Coon, Mary Martello and Tom McCarthy. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum runs May 18 – June 18, 2006. College Night for Forum is Thursday, May 18. College Night offers are good only for the dates above.
