The Frog prince: This magical fantasy tale brings laughter and joy to children and adults alike! In Curio's adaptation, The Fair Maiden befriends an ugly frog, only to find that he transforms into a handsome prince. After his magical transformation, however, he is stolen away by the Evil Troll Queen to wed her daughter, The Troll Princess. The Fair Maiden must now undergo a long and difficult journey to save her new friend.

An array of magical creatures, including The North Wind, The Giant Salamander, The Great Tree of the Forest, and The Fish of the Sea, show her the way and teach her the morals of friendship and loyalty.

Amazing costuming, giant puppetry, as well as originally composed music by jazz pianist, Ed Kuhn, present a truly inspiring family performance, ideal for all ages.

Curio Theatre Company was founded in 2001 by Gay Carducci, and equity actors, Paul Kuhn, and Jared Reed, with a goal to illuminate classic works and styles selected from a wide variety of sources (novels, dramas, poetry, art, epic, history). The three met at Hedgerow Theatre, Rose Valley, PA. Also veterans of Hedgerow Theatre, Aetna Gallagher, joined the company in 2003, and Keren White, in 2004, when the company registered as a non-profit 501c3 company.

Curio began as a touring company serving regional schools in and around Philadelphia and beyond. Past tours include many local high schools, elementary schools, Philadelphia University of the Sciences, Temple University, and the University of Oxford, UK. The Company is now in the process of moving to 48th Street and Baltimore Avenue, in partnership with Calvary Center for Culture and Community (CCCC). This will be the company’s first year operating from their own theatre offices and permanent rehearsal space, from which to run classes for all ages, outreach programs, and a full 2005-6 season, as well as continuing their touring performances. Curio is currently running outreach programs to the Lea Elementary School, and the Shaw Middle School, both in West Philadelphia funded by the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and Center for Community Partnerships.

Curio and CCCC are currently working to raise over $1 million in funds to convert the historic sanctuary within Calvary Church into a fully operational theatre within the heart of University City. In the meantime, Curio has launched their first full season at the Walnut Street Studio 5 Theatre, and on a temporary stage at Calvary, while the sanctuary space is being developed.

Curio Theatre Company is supported by Abbraccio Fine Italian Cuisine, Dhalak’s Ethiopian Restaurant and Vientiane Thai Café. See website for meal deals and discounts!
