Hedgerow Theatre presents Penelope Reed in William Luce’s TONY-award-winning The Belle of Amherst at Hedgerow Theatre, 64 Rose Valley Road, Media. Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed will reprise her critically acclaimed portrayal of the great American poet Emily Dickinson for four performances only -- Sept. 1-3 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. Hedgerow invites audiences to spend the day with Emily, have tea and sample her famous “black cake”.

Philadelphia Inquirer theater critic Doug Keating called Ms. Reed’s portrayal of Emily Dickinson “an eloquent, inspired performance, worthy of its eloquent, inspired subject.”

Miss Emily Dickinson, eccentric and virtual recluse in her father’s house for 56 years, was the subject of much local gossip in small-town Amherst, Massachusetts. While spending her hours cooking, sewing, cleaning, inviting kindred spirits in for tea, she secretly recorded her private thoughts in over 1,700 epigrammatic poems. These posthumously have become some of the most enduring and endearing verses in American literature.

Ms. Reed’s was recently seen in Hedgerow’s new play festival production of Gorked! and in Nagle Jackson’s contemporary comedy This Day and Age. She will be performing this one-person tour de force for four performances only, bringing to Emily Dickinson vividly to life.

Tickets are $22 on Thursdays and Sundays and $25 on Friday and Saturdays, with $3 discounts for seniors and $10 for students under age 18. Call 610-565-4211 for reservations or more information or visit www.hedgerowtheatre.org.
