Arden Theatre Company Concludes the Season's College Night Series with Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Book by Hugh Wheeler For Immediate Release: April 18, 2005 Arden Theatre Company's College Night series rounds out the season with two performances of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. College students with valid student ID will receive $10 tickets for the 8pm performances on Thursday, May 19 and Thursday, May 26. Usually the theatre designates one performance per run of a show as College Night but due to a high volume of presales, an additional performance has been added to the schedule. This is the second time the Arden has added a performance to the College Night schedule – Fences also proved popular with the college-age crowd warranting schedule adjustments to accommodate ticket demand. The number of college students attending the Arden has tripled since the theatre established College Nights merely one year ago. Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, directed by Arden's Producing Artistic Director Terrence J. Nolen, is a thrilling masterpiece of passion, revenge, and meat pies. On a mission of ruthless retribution barber Sweeney Todd (Thom Sesma), schemes with amoral and lovesick shopkeeper Mrs. Lovett (recent Barrymore Award-winning dame Mary Martello) to avenge his family in the most delectable fashion. This chilling comedy is set to the brilliant music of legendary composer Stephen Sondheim. The talent-packed cast of 19, accompanied by a 9-piece orchestra, will be joined by a dynamic design team charged with turning the F. Otto Haas theatre into the dirty dregs of London's underbelly. This production promises to be one of the most stunning and innovative stagings at the Arden to date. Blurring the lines between audience and performance, some patrons will be seated on stage within the action. Sweeney Todd runs from May 19 through June 19 with College Nights scheduled for Thursday, May 19 and Thursday, May 26. College Nights offer $10 tickets to college students with valid student ID. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Arden Box Office at (215) 922-1122 or online at www.ardentheatre.org. WHERE: WHEN:
