This Day & Age Opens March 11 at Hedgerow Theatre For Immediate Release: February 23, 2005 "Who ever heard of anyone wanting to live alone?" "Anyone who tried it" says the politically incorrect and recently widowed Marjorie whose story is told in the mid-Atlantic professional premiere of This Day and Age March 11-April 17 at Hedgerow Theatre. The new comedy was written by distinguished director/playwright Nagle Jackson who will also direct the production for the Hedgerow. Playwright "Jackson may be on to something big" wrote the San Francisco Examiner when this play premiered and was the surprise hit of the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Recently widowed Marjorie (who will be played by Hedgerows artistic director Penelope Reed), is blissfully happy sitting poolside until her adult children decide to move back in. This provocative and timely comedy will leave you laughing, questioning and, maybe, thinking about some very basic issues. When Nagle Jackson brought Milwaukee Repertory Theatres leading actress Penelope Reed to McCarter Theatre, he announced it was a coup. In bringing Nagle Jackson to Hedgerow, Penelope says what a major coup for the Greater Philadelphia region to have a director and playwright of international stature in our midst. Mr. Jacksons credits include a distinguished directorial career on the national resident theater scene. He was also an Associate Director with A.C.T., San Francisco, the Artistic Director of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre (where he met Penelope Reed) and the McCarter Theatre in Princeton. Mr. Jackson stepped down from administrative directorship to pursue playwrighting. Six of his plays have been published by the Dramatists Play Service and produced at many theaters both here and abroad. Hedgerow annually stages his adaptation of A Christmas Carol. Mr. Jackson has been a guest director at leading resident theaters in the U.S. and has also directed at the Bolshoi Dramatic Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia and the Trondelag Theater in Trondheim, Norway. He has also directed several operas for the Opera Festival of New Jersey and staged his own plays at the Kennedy Center and the Denver Center. He is currently Director of New Play Development at the Denver Center Theatre Company. He will direct a distinguished cast that includes ensemble members Penelope Reed, Paul Kuhn of Media and visiting artist Joel Malazita of NY, Gina Pisasale of Media and Rebecca Hayes Kenny and Doug Wild of Philadelphia. The play previews March 10 at 8 p.m. Opening night with reception following is 8 p.m. March 11. Performances continue 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through April 17.
