James Haskins, the Executive Director of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, will be one of the honorees at Media Theatre's annual Gala this year. On Saturday evening, February 12, Haskins will be given the 2005 Advocate of the Arts Award for broadening the scope of Philadelphia theatre during the past year.

Media Theatre Artistic Director Jesse Cline said, “James Haskins has done more than anyone when it comes to expanding the awareness of the importance of theatre in the Philadelphia/ Wilmington region. Through his efforts, the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia has unified the theatrical community in the area, created new ways of promoting the great work done in and around Philadelphia, and raised the bar for standards of excellence across the board. The Theatre Alliance couldn't have a more positive, all-inclusive leader than James Haskins.”

The Hedgerow Theatre in Rose Valley will receive the Arts Recognition Award at this year's Gala. Hedgerow's Artistic Director Penelope Reed will accept the honor. In years past, the award has been given to nationally recognized performers such as Peter Nero and Ann Crumb. Cline explained, “Hedgerow works tirelessly, and has for many years, to produce new and classic plays that have a far-reaching impact on the community. Under Penelope Reed's direction, it has maintained and expanded upon its reputation as a nationally recognized treasure to this region.”

The Media Theatre Gala evening (Saturday, February 12) includes two receptions and a performance of the Broadway musical I Do! I Do! starring 2004 Barrymore Award nominee Nina Donze and Springfield actor Peter Postiglione.
